Two Japanese companies have ongoing battle for the market which lasts for years. Now, latest competition we will see in pick-up truck segment. Shortly after announce that new Tacoma model will be on the market soon, there are some leaked rumors that 2016 Honda Ridgeline is on the way. This vehicle will be made to overtake the market in its segment, but competition is hard since Tacoma will have starting advantage. Also, since competing for US market, domestic trucks are on the way for 2016 Honda Ridgeline and Toyota Tacoma, but these two fight for advantage in imported vehicles.

Powertrains for these models are not announced yet. But, there are leaked information about it. Under the hood of the 2016 Honda Ridgeline will be aluminum block 3.5 liter 24 valve SOHC V6, while it’s also possible to see Ridgeline as hybrid. With this engine in combination with electric motor, 2016 Ridgeline would probably be No1 pick for buyers. On the other hand, Tacoma will use two options, 4.6 liter V-6 and 5.7 liter V-6 engines. Both vehicles will be offered in two- and all-wheel drive. Also, mutual will be improvement in fuel consumption, mostly by using modern lighter materials which resulted with weight lose.

Honda is about to make jump from current 17 mpg rate for Ridgeline. Competition has advantage in this area and now it is on Honda to respond. It is believed that 2016 Honda Ridgeline must go over 20 mpg so it could compete. Also, there is common problem for all pick-up trucks – how to boost fuel economy and not to lose on power and towing which is main duty for these kind of vehicles. US made trucks are leaders in fuel economy rate, but also Tacoma made big step forward. It is expected to see how Honda is going to react.

Price is one more lack of 2016 Honda Ridgeline. Starting price for current models is from around $30.000. On the other side, Tacoma’s base models cost $2.000 less. However, price list for upcoming models are not set yet, so we have to wait to see how people from Honda will solve this puzzle.
