According to latest information, next New York’s car show will host a premiere of the new 2016 Ram 1500. Company’s spokesmen say that truck is coming refreshed, but not redesigned. Ram will keep pace with other companies, including Toyota, and its mid-size pick up truck Tacoma, and they are also going to wait with large overhaul. Complete redesign for Ram 1500 is planned for 2019, probably when other companies are going to do the same. Mid-size truck is segment where the competition is the most even. We will see what could bring new Ram.
2016 Ram 1500 engine
Same options from last model are expected for upcoming vehicles, until big redesign. We are sure Chrysler’s Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 unit will be found under base models of 2016 Ram 1500. This engine is good for 300 hp. There will be also 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6. This Ecodiesel can deliver 240 hp. Top of the class models come with HEMI V8 drivetrain, with massive output of 395 horsepower and 407 pound-feet of torque. New 2016 Tacoma should be also packed with old engines. These are 2.7-liter four-cylinder unit good for 160 hp and 4.0-liter V6 with 240 hp and 260 pound-feet of torque.
2016 Ram 1500 mpg
In the fuel consumption area, 2016 Toyota Tacoma achieves slightly better results. It can go 21 mpg in the city mode and 25 on the highway. On the other side 2016 Ram 1500 have 17/25 mpg rate for city and highway drive. Four-wheel drive has 17/23 mpg rate. Also, HEMI V8 option takes more fuel, and its numbers are on the downside. These trucks can run 15/21 mpg with AWD. The most economical models are with EcoBoost powertrain with mpg rate at 20 for city and 28 for highway drive.
2016 Ram 1500 price
The most affordable vehicles from current Ram 1500 offer cost from $25.000. Since no dramatical changes are announced, we doo not expect big change. Top models are equipped with V8 units and cost closer to $50.000 mark. The 2016 Tacoma starts from lower tag, around $20.000. Top of the class models, with TRD pro package and 4.0-l engine are around $38.000.
